What is a children's urologist?
Children's urologists are pediatric surgeons who are experts in the diagnosis, treatment and management of conditions that may affect a child's bladder, kidneys, or other parts of the urinary tract. Our pediatric urologists use leading-edge technology to diagnose urological concerns before delivery and provide specialized care after a baby is born.
If advanced care is needed, urologists work in collaboration with a team of expert subspecialists through UMMC’s Center for Maternal and Fetal Care. This multidisciplinary team works together to care for both the mother and child’s unique needs - all under one roof.
About children's urology
The Center for Maternal and Fetal Care draws on the Children's of Mississippi pediatric urology program to offer highly advanced urological care to children of all ages. Some of the most common pediatric urological concerns occur during fetal development. Once a diagnosis is made, our multidisciplinary care team partners meet with parents to determine a customized birth plan. Our maternal-fetal specialists perform some intrauterine procedures. However, conditions requiring surgery are performed by our specially trained pediatric urologists at Children's of Mississippi. Our supportive staff includes board-certified subspecialists and nurse practitioners with advanced training in the treatment of children's urology-related concerns.
Children's urology offers:
- Expert prenatal urological diagnosis and evaluation.
- Surgical treatment of conditions affecting a child's bladder, kidneys, or urinary tract.
- Comprehensive urological care for children of all ages.
- Access to nationally-recognized pediatric urologists at Mississippi's only children's hospital.
